General information
Due to the
total elevation gain it is considered a challenging event. The adventure
trek (no time kept) allows to discover in 3 stages a trail usually done in five
to seven days, whereas the non-stop race is an original and very tough
challenge, with a night stage. The goal of merely completing the non-stop
race is an extraordinary challenge, and there are no more than five or six
teams which can hope to compete for the victory. In 2009, the raid will start from
the splendid city of Valence in Drôme and finish at Gap in the
Hautes-Alpes. The raid
is exclusively meant for top notch mountain bike riders in view of the
technical characteristics of the route and the fitness it requires. We will
carry your gear from stage to stage and direct you to camping sites (you will
have to provide the tent and sleeping gear) An average of three feed areas are
provided for each stage, plus breakfast and evening meal. You can
bring a support crew of 1 or 2, no more on the Adventure trek or the Elite
race, but they must register at the same time as you do to be entitled
to all these services. The raid
is really in great demand. We have been turning down an average of 30% of the
applicants for the last few years. Though we regret it, we think we have to
keep the event convivial and avoid overcrowding the local environment.
Consequently, the closing date for applications is purely theoretical as we
draw the line at 500 riders for the 3 day Adventure trek and 60 teams
composed of two members for the race
The Raid
is meant to promote the permanent trails which link the Rhône valley to the
Southern area of the Alps (West to East) and the Vercors to Provence (North to
South) See www.chemins-du-soleil.com for detailed information. The
raid is organised by the "Raid VTT" organisation in close partnership
with the Drôme Conseil General and the Town Council of Gap.

We notify a registered body of the mileage covered by the entrants who drive to reach our venue. To compensate, we pay a carbon emission tax which will be used for environmental and sustainable development projects. Last year, we contributed up to 500 € to compensate the transportation-related carbon emissions.
WASTE SORTING
We shall propose waste sorting on campsites and feed areas. Be so kind as to follow the instructions. As far as possible, we shall use biodegradable plates, cups and cutlery. If necessary, in addition to permanent toilets, we use dry toilets. We should also improve the collection of the waste water (showers and bike washing points) We shall take all the information you can get us on that subject.
